The Faculty of Humanities of Daugavpils University with participation of “1 a” initiative of the Programme of European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals 2013 “Elaboration of Language and Adaptation Programmes for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals and Creation of a Cohesive Society” has received financial support for the project “Social Cultural Adaptation Measures for Integrating Third-Country Nationals into Latvian Society – IN FRIENDSHIP WITH LATVIA” (Grant Agreement No. IF / 2013 /1.a./18).

The general objective of the project “Social Cultural Adaptation Measures for Integrating Third-Country Nationals into Latvian Society – IN FRIENDSHIP WITH LATVIA” is to facilitate the integration of third-country nationals into the Latvian society. The target group of the project will be offered a series of activities based on the principles of inclusive education, laying the groundwork for the acquisition of the Latvian language as an essential precondition for integration at levels A1-A2 and studies of the history and state of Latvia. The innovative methodology of language teaching in the synthesis with a diverse set of activities will form a sense of belonging to the state of Latvia and respect to the culture of Latvia, as well as promote the openness of the state and the nation to the specificity of minorities.

Project partner is DU Society of Lifelong Learning, Culture and Science Communication – “Intelligence Park”.

The goal of the project is to implement an interdisciplinary support system for socializing third-country nationals. The project will include formal (Latvian language and Latvian history classes, socialization lectures) and informal learning activities (interactive tours in Latvian with the aim of getting acquainted with the cultural values ​​of Latvia, the creation of a “Project Handbook”, creative activities in the Speaking Club); to provide third-country nationals, including vulnerable groups of third-country nationals, with the acquisition of knowledge of the Latvian language and Latvian state and basic knowledge of Latvian society and culture, promoting their adaptation and integration into the economic, social and cultural environment of Latvia.

Project implementation time: 5 December 2014 – 30 June 2015.

Duration of the project – 7 months.

The project budget – 132802,12 EUR, from which the total expenses of the “Intelligence Park” as a project partner – 3367,38 EUR.

Project funding: European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals 75% and Latvian state budget funds 25%.
