The Literary Academy of Eastern Latvia is an organization initiated in 2013 by DU Faculty of Humanities for teaching talented and creative literary men from Eastern Latvia under the guidance of DU literary scholars, as well as for the exchange of expereince in workshops with professional writers to promote literary skills in Daugavpils and Eastern Latvia.
The aim of the academy is to create a tool for promoting literary skills in Daugavpils and Eastern Latvia, as well as to introduce talented Eastern-Latvian literary men to the cultural space of Latvia.
Creative workshops, lectures and discussions for future authors at Daugavpils University are run by prominent Latvian poets, prose writers and songwriters (Anna Rancāne, Jānis Streičs, Pauls Bankovskis, Maira Asare, Sergejs Moreino, Aivars Eipurs, Kārlis Vērdiņš, Inga Žolude, Dace Rukšāne, Gundars Ignats, Māris Salējs, Iveta Ratinīka, Otto Ozols, Inese Zandere, Andra Manfelde, Rimants Ziedonis, Jānis Rokpelnis, Linda Kilevica, Guntars Godiņš, Ingmāra Balode), as well as DU lecturers – Dr. philol., prof. Maija Burima and Dr. philol., doc. Valentīns Lukaševičs. Language counselling was provided by the lecturer of the Department of the Latvian Language, Mg. philol. Veronika Ruža.
The Academy involves authors of different ages writing in Latvian, Latgalian, Russian, and Polish languages representing Daugavpils, Rezekne, Preiļi, Berzgale, and Maļinova, who have already shown their creative potential.
