On September 28, 2018, in the framework of European Researchers’ night and organized by the Lifelong learning, culture, and research communication society “Intellect Park” of Daugavpils University, an event “Literary Cafe” took place. The event brought together more than 70 participants, including members and students of Daugavpils University, teachers, and pupils of Daugavpils general education institutions.
The event was attended by the poet, one of the most active translators from the Estonian and Finnish languages Guntars Godiņš, and the docent of the department of Physics and Maths at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Ph.D. Lolita Jonāne. The event was hosted by the academic, Daugavpils University prorector, Prof. Maija Burima.
During the event, creative discussions had been looked at, the sound had listened from lyricists and physicists’ point of view. G. Godiņš demonstrated the peculiarities of the sound, reading poems in Finnish, Latvian, and Estonian languages. With the help of experiments, L. Jonāne found out what factors affect different sound characteristics, such as tone and volume.
The event took place under the programme Horizon 2020, in the framework of the EU research and innovation project “European Researchers’ Night in Latvia 2018-2019”, acronym NIGHTLV-2018-2019 (Grant Agreement No. 819129).
